SSM Exhibition
Islamic artifacts exhibited in Istanbul

Turkey's Sabanci Museum is exhibiting some of the Louvre's prime artifacts from Ottoman, Iran's Safavid and India's Mughal empires.

The 218 artifacts loaned by the Louvre's prestigious Islamic Arts Collection, are examples of the imperial arts of three major Islamic empires that reigned during the 15th and 18th centuries.

The exhibition, open until June 1 in Emirgan, has been described as a significant cultural even.

The outstanding collection of artworks include pieces that are rarely exhibited, therefore emphasizing not only their spiritual value, but their importance as treasured material.

The museum director Nazan Olcer described the exhibition as "an unparalleled opportunity in terms of getting to see the development of Islamic art in different world geographies, and getting to understand their shared characteristics as well as the differences in this art."

The "Three Capitals of Islamic Art" exhibit is the first product of the deal between the Sakip Sabanci Museum and the Louvre, signed in March 2007. It is also being supported by the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris.
